FAQs

Find quick clarity on the details that matter most. We have compiled answers to our most frequently asked questions regarding booking timelines, life on board, custom menu planning, and maritime etiquette to help you prepare for a seamless journey.

Booking & Planning

The best way to begin is by speaking with one of our charter brokers. They will ask about your group size, ideal destinations, and preferred activities to provide a curated shortlist of yachts that perfectly match your needs.

Aim to book 6 to 12 months in advance to secure the best yachts and dates. For a summer charter, November or December of the previous year is the sweet spot. For winter charters, start looking in April or May.

Most charter yachts comfortably accommodate 8 to 12 guests. If you are traveling with a larger party, specialized yachts built to the Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) can host up to 36 guests. The crew does not count toward your guest total.

You can charter a yacht globally—from the Mediterranean in the summer to the Caribbean in the winter, or even remote locations like Antarctica. Once you share your interests, your broker and the captain will design a highly customized, flexible itinerary for your trip.

Costs & Payments

A few weeks before your departure, you will fill out a detailed preference questionnaire. This ensures the crew is fully prepared for any dietary restrictions, allergies, medical requirements, or special celebrations before you step on board.

In addition to the base rate, you will pay an APA, which typically equals 20–40% of the charter fee. This mandatory fund covers all your daily operating expenses during the trip, including food, alcohol, fuel, and docking fees. The captain tracks these expenses meticulously and provides a full financial breakdown at the end of the charter.

Yes, while tipping is entirely at your discretion, it is customary to reward good service. A standard gratuity is 10–15% of the base charter fee. You give this to the captain at the end of your trip, and they will distribute it evenly among all crew members.

The Onboard Experience

Under standard industry terms, the weekly base rate covers the hire of the yacht itself and the services of the fully trained crew.

Pet policies vary. Many yachts do not allow animals, but some are pet-friendly and may just require an additional security deposit. Let your broker know your plans early so they can filter your options accordingly.

To protect the delicate teak decks, tradition dictates going barefoot while on board, though the yacht may provide indoor slippers. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside all yachts for safety reasons, though it may be permitted in designated outdoor deck areas.
